The adorable symbol for ghost towns on the official Montana highway map is a teensy crooked house and they are sprinkled throughout the many glorious counties of Big Sky Country. Our many miles of driving on wide open roads were often interrupted by spontaneous detours to abandoned mining towns and hot spring spas. While some towns resembled old western movie sets, others were too eerie to observe for too long. It was fascinating!

I've always had a desire to visit Montana. When you live in a city as populated and energetic as New York, the need to escape to wide-open spaces is inevitable. Escaping to a hillside cabin surrounded by snow capped mountains and mule deer, equipped with red wine, a cute boyfriend and Lula magazine, was the perfect recipe for recharging.

We shot these photos with 35mm on old Nikkormat cameras. Many more to come..

{Sisters Of The Groom}

Over the weekend, my brother wed his ladylove of 10 years! A beautiful ceremony was had in quite an extravagant town house, somewhat hidden from the outer world. Lot's of happy tears were shed with the accompaniment of St. Germain, dirty, dirty Martinis, fluffy cake and dancing feet.

I was delighted to have been asked to design the bridesmaids dresses for the four maids of the bride, including myself and my gorgeous sister (pictured above) After weeks of hand-sewing and beading nearly 100 individual organza flowers, I allowed myself a day of rest (yesterday). More photos to come!

En route to the city from a country-side picnic late last night was a treat due to distant firework displays sporadically popping up in small towns off rt. 80. My friend Liz talked about once being up in a plane on the 4th of July and taking off right around nightfall, just in time to witness every display her city of departure had to offer from a few thousand feet above.
Must have been pretty surreal. Almost as surreal as the thought of the inner luminous workings of fireflies, which I spent a good amount of time pondering and inquiring about whilst gazing upon them and munching on far too many patriotic desserts amongst good friends and family. The answers I received after asking "what makes a firefly glow" were; chemicals, love and magic. I'll take it!

I have to admit that I'm ever so slightly missing my balloon-filled apartment from my last impromptu photoshoot though it was a wee bit of a challenge to move around the place. Dan and I share a slice of cake.

Dan has a beard now. Dan has a beard because he went for a long walk with a book and whiskey in tow and stopped only to sleep and feed the ducks. This busy walking routine, of course left not a moment to shave. I had a dream that in the middle of his trek, he abandoned a cardboard rainbow by the side of the road, and I passed it in my car just as the sky turned green and a tornado whisked it away. He's one of my most favorite people in the world.

Dan's work is featured in an exhibition in Paris til June. If you're lucky enough to be residing in or visiting lovely Paris, do take a peak at his wonderfully eerie photography work.

Above are a few looks you can expect to see at my Bloomingdale's trunk show this week! I've been busily preparing myself for the show whilst nursing a very swollen face due to evil wisdom teeth. Yikes! Aren't wisdom teeth so unwise and unfair!?

Luckily, even in poor health, I was able to squeeze in an impromptu photo shoot at my new humble abode with a few talented friends and a few festive balloons.

I love the story my grandmother tells of how she first met my grandfather. Something like she saw him from her dormitory window at university on one of the last days of the semester as everyone was packing up their belongings. He turned out to be the friend of the brother of a female acquaintance, who was in the midst of packing up a car load of a semesters worth of boxes, which subsequently led my grandmother to insist on helping.

Sparks ignited, however, he told her she was too young as he was slightly older than she, and that he'd find her in a few years. A few weeks later, he called.

A few scans from Frida Kahlo's lovely book featuring a collection of her personal photographs.

As I said, back when I was sharing a series of photos from my own trip down to Mexico, visiting La Casa Azul was such a treat! If any of you find yourself down in the charming area of Coyoacan, be sure to, after sampling a fist full of local fried grasshoppers (have to admit I wasn't brave enough to try a single one!), stop by Frida and Diego's home. There's a photography exhibit in a smaller building, slightly veiled by shrubs and dangling greenery behind the main house and through a yard filled with playful cats. If you're not Mexico bound for quite some time, but fancy a thick book of sepia-tone photos, prominent eyebrows, and kissable lipstick stained pages, I highly recommend this book!

Due to a mean cold, I found myself mostly in a horizontal state the past few days. Lying around lethargically did have its benefits as it allowed me to finish up my latest Murakami novel and indulge in an infinite Netflix stream of 30 Rock.

If any of you are a fan of Japanese writer, Haruki Murakami, and his love story, Norwegian Wood, you might like this. Does anyone know if the film is coming to New York? I've searched, though only hastily, and have found zip!

Though such a rare occasion, I do love weekends spent eating mounds of ice cream and stemming floral headbands. A couple weeks back, a quick (quick for reasons not to be mentioned for fear of embarrassing my man-friend and his weak stomach for all slimy things contained in jars and human skin bound books: understandable!) visit to the Mütter Museum was preceded by a stroll through Old City.

After a jaunt to Art In The Age of Mechanical Production, I believe I was subconsciously led to The Franklin Fountain where I promptly found a spot at the counter (after a 20 minute wait) and probably, for the first time in my life, ordered the smallest sundae an ice cream parlor had to offer for fear and intimidation that Franklin and I were not on the same page when it came the definition of a double scoop. I, myself, did not want to explode and end up a spectacle at the human oddities museum.

Nothing could have ended this day on a more unusual note than to read Stiff nearly through to its entirety in one sitting. Have any of you ever read any of Mary Roach's books? And what's your favorite ice cream parlor?

I love the colors, the lush plants, peachy hued bungalows and hanging bananas in these photos of a trip my grandparents took to Jamaica some years ago. This has me inspired to start saving for another trip to the beach somewhere. For now, I'll just help myself to some homemade version of this banana whip.

Well, these little guys will have to suffice until Jon agrees to welcome a furry companion into our home. They are quite cute, aren't they? I think my brother compared them to something out of a Dr. Seuss world, so now I'm tempted to fill my apartment with more. Being that that mission would require more frequent trips to Saffron, the wondrous spot where these little succulents were found, would not feel problematic for me in the least.

If any of you find yourself in the Brooklyn area, be sure to stop by the little spot, not just for their unique greenery, but for the jewelry and vintage tea cups! It certainly added an exclamation point to a lovely day already spent flea marketing and brunching with friend, Dan Estabrook.

Just when a break from sewing was due, Jon and I stopped by the Rachel Antonoff Show (balloon photo), which was filled with lots faces that looked familiar, including that Einstein wonderchild, Tavi. What a life she must have at 13, or however young she is! We then headed downtown to the New Museum to check out the bizarre George Condo: Mental States exhibit before I stumbled upon the most ridiculously detailed vintage erotica picture book in the gift shop, not that any of you needed to know this information...
